Testimonials

Our Genetics

Our superior genetics are a result of decades of risk-taking, experimentation and learning.

Proudly 20-years mules-free, we’re tackling major animal welfare issues head on as we continuously strive to breed the most robust and productive easy-care sheep to meet modern market demands.

High Early Growth

(PWT)

Genetics with exceptional early growth are a key catalyst for profitability since weight directly impacts earnings. Our genetics are highly sought after by lamb finishers and feedlots. They possess the advantageous trait of quick conversion, resulting in shorter feeding periods. This grants flexibility in determining the optimal timing for selling.

High Muscle

(AWT)

Optimal growth requires a harmonious combination of muscle and fat. Building substantial muscle mass not only enhances carcass composition and increases meat yields but also aids in controlling overall adult weight.

High Fat

(YFAT)

Fat is a cost-saving asset. It significantly reduces feed expenses and plays a crucial role in maintaining an ideal condition score.

Fat empowers sheep to thrive even in suboptimal feeding conditions, which is particularly vital for ewes carrying twins. It contributes to their robustness and enhances the overall eating quality.

Animal Welfare Traits

Consumers increasingly want to know where their products come from, which is why we place importance on animal welfare traits such as zero tolerance for wrinkle (EBWR), dag, WEC (worm egg count).

Reproduction, Early Maturity & Fertility

Having high lambing and the ability to join ewe lambs, has meant we, along with many of our clients, have to opportunity to sell  lines of younger ewes at above market prices, or rapidly increase flock size.

We select sires on YCON to make ewe lamb joining more predictable.

Fast Growing, High Quality, Soft White Wool

Since 2013, Moojepin Merinos are shorn twice per year at 70mm staple of high tensile strength (NKT), low mid-break and high-yielding at 70%.

Our aim is to increase to 80mm in length. Our staple length is unmatched by any seedstock Merino breeder.

Our Clients Say

Commercial Client, VIC

Over a decade ago, we purchased our foundation Merino ewes from a long-term Moojepin client in WA. We continue to use Moojepin genetics because of their high fecundity, ability to bounce back in poor seasons and the superior production of a prime lamb. Being a maternal flock, Moojepin genetics gives us the opportunity to join ewe lambs with success, be non-mulesed and produce a high value merino wool from an easy care sheep. Moojepin Merinos, ticking all the boxes - taking our family farm forward.
